Fitness progress comes in many shapes and forms.
It can be in the way you feel (hello better sleep, more energy, and less stress!), new personal bests in your workouts, how your clothes fit, and your confidence… just to name a few.
Another is, of course, the number on the scale! It’s only ONE measurement of progress, and not always the best one, but it can definitely be a part of your toolkit… if you know how to do it correctly! Because if you’re not staying consistent in how you track, then your results WILL be skewed. This quickly leads to frustration, and quitting before your big breakthrough!
Essential Rules for Weighing Yourself:
- Weigh yourself at the same time of day, on the same scale, preferably first thing in the morning.
- Weigh yourself after you’ve gone to the bathroom, but before you’ve had anything to eat or drink, gotten dressed, or exercised.
- Don’t weigh yourself randomly throughout the day. Stick to the schedule!
- If your mindset is easily affected by your weight, don’t weigh yourself every day. Instead, opt for once every 7-10 days, or work with a coach on finding other ways to measure your progress.
Don’t like what you see on any particular day? That’s normal… and it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re gaining weight!
The truth of it is, body weight fluctuates on a daily basis—often as much as 5 pounds! Hormones, stress, water weight, muscle, the foods we eat, and how often we go to the bathroom can all make a difference. But it can still feel frustrating when you step on the scale and see those numbers go the opposite direction of your goals!
