Purchasing a custom meal plan is a pivotal decision in getting lasting results! Here’s everything you need to know to access your new plan and turn a meal plan into actual meals!

You’ve probably heard it before, but crushing your workouts will only get you so far. It’s your eating habits that will help get you the long-term results you’re after.

Unfortunately, nutrition is also the most difficult part of fitness for most people to understand and put into action! That’s why we created the V Shred Custom Coaching program: to help eliminate the guess work and have the experts do the heavy lifting of figuring out what and how much to eat — so you don’t have to!

If you’ve received your a V Shred Custom Diet Plan or are just considering buying one, here’s what to expect — and a step-by-step guide of how to turn that plan into actual meals!

What to Expect When You Get Your Plan

When you open up your meal plan, the first thing you will see is your meals for the entire week.

Most days will look like this:

Breakfast

Snack

Lunch

Snack

Dinner

There might be another snack before bed, depending your goals. In addition to everything you need to eat at each meal, you will find the calorie/macro breakdown for each meal and your total daily calories/macros for the entire day at the bottom of the page.

Before we dig deep into the plan, let’s address the one question we almost always get right out of the gate. Why is my plan just one week?

Here’s why: Unless you see something that you don’t like, or we determine the plan isn’t working for you and your goals, our plans are written to repeat the same meals for several weeks, — normally, right about a month.

That may sound weird, but there is a reason. You get better at your diet the same way you do with your workouts — by repeating them more than once. Sticking to the same meals for a few weeks helps you learn crucial meal preparation and portion control skills!

Once you are confident and seeing results, we’ll start mixing things up. But if you need more variety, reach out to Be it day one or day 90; your coach is always happy to make adjustments!

Now let’s dig into how to put your plan into action, in 5 steps.

Step 1: Look Over All Seven Days Of Your Plan

Start with page one and go through each meal. Don’t just skim! Do a deep dive. Look for anything you may see as a problem; a food you hate, something you are allergic to, or a meal that just doesn’t feel right.

If something looks off, speak up! Let your coach know, and they will keep changing it until you are happy! Your plan is never set in stone.

That’s a big difference between our meal plans and ones from other online services. Our plans are meant to be truly customized. We keep making adjustments until you’re confident you can follow it without feeling overly restricted or overwhelmed.

Step 2: Make a Shopping List & Head to the Grocery Store

After the meal schedule, you will find recipes and instructions. Skip past this section for now and go to the back of the meal plan and look at the shopping list! It is about three pages long and includes everything you need to follow our recipe suggestions and make your meals.

Because your meals come from recipes, this section may look a little weird. Like, who buys .38 cups of salsa, right? Or just one tablespoon of peanut butter?

But remember, you will be repeating this meal plan for four weeks, so you will be buying almost everything you need for an entire month of meals.

That’s another perk of meal planning: It is very budget-friendly! It may seem expensive during that first shopping trip, but once you get good at shopping, you can easily save enough money each month to pay for your meal plan.

We suggest printing this section and taking it to the store with you so you can buy everything you need to set yourself up for most of the month in a single trip. In some cases, you’ll only have to buy some of these things once every few months.

You will also see specific brand names called out on these shopping lists. You don’t need to buy the exact brands listed. Buy the brand you want or that you can afford.

Step 3: Practice Measuring Your Food

Our meal plans contain a range of pretty normal food: measurements: tablespoons, ounces, cups, etc. If you go to the last page of the meal plan, there’s a simple portion guide that helps you put those into some terms. For example, a cup of salad greens is about the size of a baseball.

However, we recommend investing in a food scale and tools like measuring cups and spoons for optimal accuracy. You can pick one up at most department/grocery chains or find them really cheap online.

That may seem like overkill, but here’s why it’s so important. Compare these two servings of nuts. They’re both a size that would be easy to scoop out of a bag with your hand, but one contains an extra 235 calories.

That number of extra calories one time won’t make or break your results. But repeated on a regular basis for weeks or months, the calories will definitely add up!

The moral of the story: It’s hard to “eyeball” portions, especially when you’re not used to it. Use a food scale as often as you can, at least for a couple of months. Over time you can get pretty good at eyeballing, but it takes plenty of practice.

Step 4: Learn Your Swaps

Our V Shred coaches share a short guide with every meal plan that lists easy protein, carb, fat, and vegetable substitutions. These are interchangeable foods based on your wants, needs, and cravings, and will help keep you from getting bored with your plan.

For example, let’s say you see chicken on your plan a few times. If you already know that you are going to get sick of chicken after a couple of days, when you are out grocery shopping, pick up some items on the substitute list! You could have an equal portion of lean turkey, white fish, 3/4 of a cup of cottage cheese, or plenty of other options.

If you aren’t sure if you are substituting with the right foods or don’t see any substitutions you like, you can always reach out to your coach to ask. Our Facebook Group for Women or Facebook Group for Men are also packed with thousands of people who have had success in custom coaching, and they have tons of great ideas to keep you satisfied.

Step 5: Pick Your Meals

Now that you’ve looked at your plan and understand the shopping and substitutes list, it’s time to make your shopping list, and start prepping a few meals! If you need some ideas on making meal-prepping easier, Vince filmed a great video on meal-prep tips that can help you get started.

Hopefully you are feeling confident and ready to start eating and feeling better!

But if you are still confused after looking everything over, it’s normal. Please don’t hesitate to talk to your coach! You are never bothering them, and there is no such thing as a “dumb” question.

Each week, look for a “check-in” emails from your V Shred coach. If you have any questions or feel like you’re struggling, this is the best way to get help from experts who know how to give it.

Now, time to go start taking control of your nutrition. We know you can do it!

If you are struggling with figuring out what and how much to eat, don’t get discouraged. Nutrition is the most challenging part of creating a healthier lifestyle! Here’s how to get the fundamentals dialed in.

Changing any habit is hard. But eating habits are especially tough.

But the good news is that many people have been where you are before, and emerged on the other side leaner, healthier, and feeling amazing. Just take a look at some of our V Shred customer transformations for proof!

Here’s how to navigate the initial learning curve of nutrition and start eating better today!

Draw a line around your house.

You can’t keep the world from being full of junk food, but you can choose to not bring it into your house.

Maybe you’ve heard the saying, “If you hang around the barbershop long enough, eventually you’re going to get a haircut.” Well, this applies to cravings, too. If you let your weakness into your home, it’s got a much better chance of finding you.

“But I can just have a little bit…” Or can you? Maybe, but maybe not… yet.

When you’re just starting out, we suggest not buying any high-calorie “trigger” foods, and getting rid of the ones that are in your house. Keep them out until you have some time behind you and are certain you can trust yourself to resist or can enjoy one serving (accounted for if you are tracking macros) and move on. For some people, this could be months down the road. or years.

In the mean time, stock up on veggies to snack on and even some Sculpt Nation Protein. You can shake it up with just water, add some fruit for a delicious smoothie, or create protein-filled treats like protein pancakes!

If you have a sweet tooth, many of our clients say they curb those cravings with our Apple Cider Vinegar Gummies. You can have up to three 20-calorie servings a day, and they taste like candy! Plus, they can help give you quick “pick-me-up energy” and provide digestion and metabolism support.

Drink Up

It’s really common to think you’re hungry, when you’re actually just thirsty or even a little dehydrated.

If you’re feeling desperately hungry, have a glass of water or another no-calorie beverage like some Sculpt Nation BCAAs, wait 20 minutes, and see how you feel.

If you need some other suggestions of beverages you can enjoy while dieting, check out the article What Should I Drink Beside Water?

And if you are wondering if it’s okay to drink things like coffee or alcohol, we’ve got you covered there too! You can read our tips for consuming these beverages and staying on track in the article Can I Drink Alcohol or Coffee?

Do some targeted meal prep

Meal prep is a popular way to try to gain control over nutrition, but not all of us are ready to prep every meal, every day — and that’s just fine! Especially if you’re just starting out, consider just prepping the meal you struggle with the most.

You can start with breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks — whichever one is your “problem meal” and tends to cause you to over-indulge or end up in the drive-thru. Then, once you feel confident preparing that meal, take that momentum and apply it to another meal.

You might be surprised how big of an effect simply fixing one calorie-bomb per day can have!

If you need some tips on meal prepping, check out the popular meal prep guide Vince Sant posted on our V Shred’s YouTube Channel.

Have A Strong Support System

Getting started can feel infinitely harder if your friends, family, and co-workers aren’t joining you and adopting a healthy lifestyle of their own. Even if you feel like you’re the only one in your circle making positive changes, it’s still important that you vocalize your goals and let them know you would welcome their support.

But it’s equally important to have like-minded people in your circle cheering you on. This is exactly why we created our private Facebook Groups for Men and Women.

It’s free to join, and there are hundreds of thousands of other clients and even our V Shred trainers and nutritionists in these groups that are happy to offer tips that will help you navigate your exercise program and diet and offer the support you need to stay on track!

Still Stuck? We’ve Got Your Back!

Don’t be afraid to ask for help! You may not be an expert yet, but we have some team members who definitely hare.

The Custom Coaching team at V Shred have created over 1 million personalized meal plans for people from all backgrounds, and can do the same for you. No matter your situation, they’ve seen it before.

You’re trying to eat right and prioritize protein. Great! But how you prepare your meat can be just as important as how much you eat. Here are our expert tips for the best low-calorie ways to cook meat.

How to prepare protein is a question we hear all the time. In terms of nutrition questions, it’s right up there with “What should I order when eating at a restaurant” and “Should I have a protein shake post-workout.”

And just like those questions the answer depends on your goals. Here’s how to cook your proteins in a way that will keep you from getting bored and help you reach your goals!

Best Ways To Prepare Meat For Weight Loss

If you’re using one of our programs like Fat Loss Extreme for Men or Women or Move, it’s likely that you’re looking to lose or control your weight. If that’ the case, then battering or deep-frying your meat on a daily basis probably won’t help you much!

When weight-loss is the goal, stick with low-calorie ways of cooking your meat such as:

Baking

Grilling

Boiling

Pan-frying

Air frying

All of these methods are great for cooking enough meat for a single meal, or even better, for “meal prepping” multiple meals– which we highly recommend.

One other thing to watch out for if you are trying to lose weight is cooking oils. They can add a lot of calories from fats, and it doesn’t take very much for them to add up quickly, especially if you are cooking with them for several meals each day.

Now, that doesn’t mean you can’t use them. It just means you should use oils in moderation and, more importantly, track them if you are measuring your food and tracking calories/macros — which you can easily calculate in our V Shred App for IOS or Android.

Here are a few other cooking options besides frying, battering, and smothering with oils.

Cooking Sprays: Most cooking methods mentioned above don’t require additional oil. But if needed and you’re looking for places to cut calories, consider switching to a few spritzes of cooking spray.

Herbs & Spices: These will be your best friend if you want to flavor your meat without any additional calories! Change them around, and you’ll find you can prepare chicken or other meats multiple ways, all without adding any calories.

Rotate A Variety Of Lean Meats: Don’t feel like you need to limit your protein choices to fish and chicken! Lean ground beef, lean ground turkey, lean ground bison, and even pork tenderloin are delicious low-fat protein sources.

They are also super easy to prep without additional oils. Just toss them in some spices, cook using one of the suggested methods above, and then serve them up alongside some vegetables and a healthy carb — and dinner is done.

If you get bored with meat, you can also use Sculpt Nation PROTEIN to make a delicious smoothie, or even something fun like protein pancakes!

Best Ways To Cook Meat For Bulking/Weight Gain

If you are in a caloric surplus or looking for ways to add more calories to your meals without feeling overly stuffed (which is a common issue that we talk about in the article Should I Keep Eating if I’m Full? — cooking oils and higher fat meats are a great way to sneak in calories.

That doesn’t necessarily mean “all butter, all the time,” though! After all, a bulking program like CLEAN BULK should be just that… clean!

And if it’s not clear where that line is, we can help you find it! That’s why we have a team of nutritionists at V Shred who make custom goal-oriented meal plans for people worldwide every day.

You can get your customized meal plan here or email coaching@vshred.com, and we’ll create a plan that you can stick with that includes the best ways to prepare your meals!

If you aren’t already, you should also get active in our Facebook Groups for Men or Women. Thousands of people — even our on-staff trainers and nutrition experts — are there every day offering cooking tips, recipes, and more!

Carb cycling is a popular way to gear your nutrition toward burning more fat, but it’s definitely not for everybody. Here is a breakdown of the perks and downfalls of carb cycling diets and how to figure out if they’re a good fit for you!

You’ve likely heard us talk about carb cycling a lot. We even include a carb cycling calculator in the calorie and macro calculator within the V Shred App for IOS and Android.

But here’s the deal… carb cycling is demanding and tricky, and it’s a dieting strategy with a pretty in-depth learning curve. It is definitely NOT for everyone, and even people who are well-versed in nutrition struggle with it — or only do it for specific periods of time.

When you’re just starting out, to be honest, it’s a lot easier to do carb cycling wrong than to do it right. For that reason, we only advise carb cycling as something you do after mastering the basics of calories, meal prep, and regular training.

The best way to do this is to follow (and finish) one of our 90-day programs— like Fat Loss Extreme Male, Fat Loss Extreme Female, or MOVE.

Even better, follow that program while asking all the questions you have along the way in our private Facebook groups for men or women, where V Shred trainers and nutrition experts are always available to answer your questions.

When To Consider Carb Cycling

Remember, the best eating style for you is the one that you can stick to consistently! That might be carb cycling for you, or it might not. After three months in one of our workout programs and lots of practice dialing in your calories and nailing workouts, you’ll have a better understanding of fitness and nutrition, and what works for you overall.

If you really want to try carb cycling and don’t want to wait three months, or you get to the end of the 90 days and are still totally lost, we can help you!

Our V Shred certified trainers and nutritionists create custom meal plans for people who want to take the planning off of their plate–literally.

Sound like a good fit? Reach out by clicking HERE or emailing coaching@vshred.com.

Crunching calories and macros can be a total headache, but it doesn’t have to be. There is a learning curve to any diet program, and there are also times your calories won’t perfectly add up. Here’s how to clear things up!

The first time through any of our 90-day programs, we don’t suggest people worry about tracking their macros to the gram or doing any carb-cycling.

Instead, within the V Shred App for IOS or Android, we provide a calorie recommendation and a full slate of recipes to help you meet that recommendation every day.

However, there’s definitely a learning curve in matching those up, especially if this style of eating is new to you.

In a program like Fat Loss Extreme For Men or Fat Loss Extreme For Women, your daily calorie needs are based on the answers you provided in your initial questionnaire. All you need to do is adjust the servings to match your individual calorie budget.

For example, let’s say a recipe calls for one 200 calorie serving of rice. You may need to lower that by half if you need fewer calories or double the serving size if you need more.

Just like when you’re looking at a nutrition label, with our recipes, a serving size is only a starting point and should be adjusted to match your individual calorie or macro goals.

Not to mention, the brand names you use in your recipes can cause slight calorie increases and decreases. Heck, even nutritional labels are allowed up to a 20 percent margin of error for the stated value versus actual value of nutrients. That’s right… 20 percent!

You will never be perfect, just do your best and aim for consistency. Just like you have to do a lot of workouts to get in the best shape of your life, you need to cook a lot of meals. Each one is a learning experience, if you allow it to be!

Still Struggling?

This is why we have a full team of nutritionists at V Shred who create customized diet plans for thousands of people every day.

We love showing off our amazing client transformations, but we also like introducing you to the team members behind the scenes that work hard to help them achieve such jaw dropping results!

We have compassionate fitness and nutrition coaches from all over the world that work remotely, putting together custom plans and work with our clients one-on-one to help them reach their individual goals!

Many people assume that trainers are just born fit and healthy! But in reality, many had lifelong struggles with being overweight, too skinny, etc.

Today we are introducing you to Jenny, one of our trainers who had to work hard to get the healthy and strong body she has today!

Jenny lives in Tennessee with her two young kids and husband Vinny, who is also one of our trainers here at V Shred!! If you missed learning more about Vinny – click here!

We asked Jenny to sit down and chat with us about her fitness journey, what led her to become a trainer, and her experience working with us here at V Shred.

If they put pictures of people in the dictionary and you looked up the definition of an athlete, fit, strong, or “tiny but mighty,” – you would no doubt find a pic of our V Shred trainer Jenny!

Standing at only 4-foot-11 … Jenny may be small, but she is strong and fit!

Jenny is a 3rd degree black belt champion, former bikini bodybuilding competitor, fitness class guru, and hits the gym hard!

But it wasn’t always like this. Growing up, Jenny was not athletic at all and was super small and weak!

“I had to take another class to graduate high school, and it was women’s bodybuilding. The first day of class, we did a bench press to see what we could lift, and I couldn’t lift the 45-pound bar. Everyone laughed at me. I was like, oh no, they’re not gonna laugh at me!! I worked my butt off that one semester, and I started gaining a little muscle. I did everything our teacher told us to do, and by the end of that one semester, I benched 95 pounds, and no one laughed. I was benching more than the athletic girls,” says Jenny.

That moment sparked Jenny’s initial interest in her own health, but it wasn’t until she signed up for an aerobics class in college that she realized that she wanted to start teaching others.

“I was like, I don’t know why, but I want to be her (the instructor.) I’m going to do this,” remembers Jenny.

While studying to get her music degree, Jenny decided to get some fitness certifications and consult with a mentor in the industry who taught her the ropes.

Jenny started out as a group fitness instructor and loved it so much that after graduating college, she made becoming a personal trainer her full-time career.

While it was not the original plan, Jenny says she can’t imagine doing anything other than being a health and fitness coach. She loves knowing she is helping people not only make physical transformations but internal ones as well!

“I have a (V Shred) client that’s been with me for two years this month, and she’s lost 80 pounds, but more than that, she has gained so much confidence. She got promoted at her job, so it’s overflowed into every other area of her life.”

Before working with V Shred, Jenny strictly taught group fitness and worked with clients in person.

But she wanted to help MORE people without having to spend even more time away from her young children. So she decided it would be best to transition to being a virtual trainer.

At first, Jenny wasn’t sure how she’d feel about not working with clients in person and was clueless about finding her online clientele. Ironically, the same day she bought a computer and sat down to get started, she saw that V Shred was hiring trainers!!

“I looked into it and realized it (V Shred) is exactly what I believe and what I’d been doing with clients already. It was a program that I believe in because it’s a lifestyle for people,” says Jenny!

Jenny applied and took the job as a V Shred trainer! That was 3 years ago, and she has never looked back!

She loves working for V Shred so much that she even convinced her husband Vinny to become one of our coaches!

“We’re very competitive with each other! So we try to compare transformations and, and who’s doing better,” laughs Jenny.

Jenny loves working with clients of all ages and backgrounds but says that her favorite is helping busy moms! As a working mom of two young kids, Jenny says she can relate to their struggles!

“Now that I’m in the chaos of trying to fit in my schedule work and handling the kids, I feel like I’m more equipped to help other women do that too. Just teaching them that this is a lifestyle and not a quick fix and knowing that with V Shred, they don’t have to work out hours and hours,” says Jenny.

Jenny has a long list of credentials and could work for any company out there. She and her husband could even have their own fitness empire if they wanted. But Jenny chooses to be on our V Shred trainer team!

Why? Because Jenny says that she believes in what we do and wants to be part of our mission to help MILLIONS of people achieve greatness through living a healthy and fit lifestyle!

“V Shred is perfect! You don’t have to spend hours at the gym to get results. You can workout for 20 minutes, and it’s effective and efficient.” says Jenny!

Why do you need to learn how to meal prep? Meal prepping is the simple act of preparing a meal to be able to use for a later time. It is also a beneficial way to maintain portion control and stick to dietary restrictions.

Many people do small forms of meal planning and meal prepping such as making their lunches ahead for work. Yet, true meal prepping involves preparing your meals for anywhere from three to seven days at one time.

There are many benefits to learning how to meal prep both for your wallet and for your health. Some of the best benefits of meal prepping include:

Staying on your dietary routine – Whether you follow nutrition goals for muscle growth, weight loss, or portion control-related to health concerns, meal preparing can make it easier to stay on track and reduce the temptation.

Reducing the amount of preparation – While the initial prep of your weekly meals may seem like a significant amount of time, you are saving hours by not having to plan and prep your meals each night. You will also likely reduce emergency trips to the store for missing ingredients.

Staying on a budget – When you plan your meals in advance you will be less tempted to buy things you don’t need or will not use throughout the week. Additionally, you will be able to take advantage of bulk purchasing and buying larger quantities of items when they are on sale.

Meal preparation is almost no different than storing leftovers. So a good rule of thumb is, if you won’t keep it as a leftover, it might not be the best for meal prep.

That being said there are definitely foods that are better choices for meal preparation. Some of the best choices include:

1. Grains

2. Pasta

3. Beans

4. Meat

5. Roasted vegetables

6. Hearty raw vegetables such as carrots, peas, and peppers

7. Whole fruits such as apples and oranges

8. Nuts

9. Cheese

10. Sauces such as salad dressings and sour cream

11. Dips such as hummus and salsa

Foods that do not last so well for meal preparation include soft or cut fruits and vegetables and foods that are supposed to be crunchy such as crackers and chips. There are some option to include these items such as individual packaging.

What Do You Need to Start?

Before learning how to meal prep, you will need to gather the items necessary to make your prep as easy and efficient as possible.

To make prepping most effective, the primary items you will need are containers. The best types of containers are ones that are dishwasher and microwave safe and are able to go into the freezer. You also want to make sure that you get the containers in a variety of sizes.

Consider investing in some high quality separated containers to keep a whole meal in one place. Buy multiple sizes of resealable bags for ingredients that need to be separated out.

Once you have gathered your needed containers, you will want to get together items you will need to cook your meals. Gather baking dishes, pots and pans, and even crock pots and steamers to be able to get as many items preparing as you can.

Getting Started

https://www.instagram.com/p/Boy0UEonRdF/

There are a few steps you need to take to begin prepping like a pro. It is important to remember that proper planning is the key to successful meal preparation.

Pick Your Prep Method

Determining your prep method will largely depend on what the goals of your meal preparation are. There are four primary prep methods to choose from including:

1. Make-ahead meals – These meals are completely cooked before they are stored and then reheated when it is time to eat. This is a good option for those who want to keep to a diet or have home-cooked meals with little preparation.

2. Batch cooking and freeze storing – In this method, batches of food are cooked. Then they are portioned out and frozen to be used for meals later. This is a good option for recipes that are easy to make larger and ones that reheat well.

3. Pre-portioned meals – This is the best option for those with a strict diet or specified nutrient needs. When you prepare this way, you will be creating grab and go meals that take the guesswork out of portioning and calorie counting.

Create Your Meal Plan

After determining your prep type, you will need to create your menu and create a meal plan.

1. Decide which meals you want to prep.

2. Determine your menu, making sure to plan your meals around seasonal options.

3. Schedule your designated prep time making sure you will have plenty of time to get everything done uninterrupted.

Get Shopping

Once your menu is planned, it is time to get the ingredients you will need for your meal prep. Make sure that your kitchen is stocked with most of the staples that the recipes call for including spices and other seasonings.

Next, you will want to create a detailed grocery list, organizing it by grocery department. This will not only reduce the amount of time you have to spend in the store but also help you remember everything you need.

Begin Prepping and Storing

Now that you have everything ready to go, it is time to get cooking. Cooking your meals will largely depend on what recipes you use, but always look for ways to be effective such as baking two dishes that cook at the same temperature together.

To get the most out of your meal prep follow the few easy tips below.

1. Use your time wisely – Try to plan your time as efficiently as possible making sure to start cooking items that will take the longest. For recipes that call for the same ingredients, prep those meals at the same time, dividing the ingredients as you need. You can also save time cleaning your cutting board by cutting all of your raw meats first.

2. Keep storage life in mind – You don’t want all of your hard work to be for nothing. Make sure that you know the prep methods to keep items as long as possible and only prep out as long as the ingredients will stay fresh.

3. Freeze properly – Freezing can be a great way to get ahead on meals and make sure they stay fresh longer. Making sure your foods are properly prepped and packaged to freeze properly is important. For example, you should always leave an inch on top of containers or bags for foods to expand while they freeze. Also, make sure to properly label and date everything, so you never wonder how old or what something is.
