</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“When I started the program, I was kinda like, what am I really working towards. A couple weeks in, I decided I want to feel good wearing a bathing suit,” says Renae.</span></i></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Renae was off to a good start with discovering hers but needed to dig a little bit deeper than wanting to confidently wear a swimsuit. </span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I was in a size 8 or 10, and they were tight on me.  I didn’t feel good about them. I’d look down and see rolls of whatever and was like, I don’t like the way I look. I just wanted to feel like I looked good again.”</span></i></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">That still wasn’t specific enough. Renae knew there was more, and after further soul searching &#8212; </span><b><i>it finally clicked!</i></b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Renae realized it had been a long time since she saw a picture of herself and had something positive to say! Right then and there, she knew her why and the goal she needed to set to keep herself motivated. </span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I booked a vacation, and I called the resort ahead of time and I booked a professional photographer to take pictures while I was there.”</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She also kept her bikini on display as a constant visual reminder of her why and the time-stamped goal only a few months away! </span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I hung my bathing suit on the mirror, and every morning I’d get up and do my workouts,”</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> says Renae. </span></p>

<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I think that was the big difference for me. By putting on that muscle, all the fat just started melting off,” </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">says Renae. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lean muscle changed the shape of her body so much that there were times Renae says </span><b><i>she didn’t even recognize herself! </i></b></p>

<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“When I got these pictures back, I was floored that I liked pictures of me, and I was floored about the way I knew I felt inside when I was doing those,” </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">smiles Renae.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Renae even printed her favorite photos and put them on display! So now, instead of a bikini hanging on her mirror, she has pictures of herself wearing it that serve as motivation moving forward.</span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I never want to go back to how I felt before V Shred. I want to feel like this as far forward as I can feel this way,”</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> says Renae. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Love them or hate them, most people do them from time to time, the question we hope to answer today is ….</span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><b><i>Are basic plank holds effective at sculpting your mid-section?! </i></b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A while back, we filmed a youtube video where we mentioned that planking is a pretty bad ab exercise. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We think that was a little confusing for some people and</span><b><i> would like to clarify </i></b><span style="font-weight: 400;">what we meant.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Basic plank holds CAN be a great exercise. When done correctly, </span><b><i>a plank activates way more muscles than a standard crunch.</i></b><b><i><br />
</i></b><span style="font-weight: 400;"><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">But whether or not doing them is beneficial at improving YOUR core depends on a few key factors:</span></p>
<ul>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you are planking correctly. </span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">What style of plank you are doing. </span></li>
<li style="font-weight: 400;" aria-level="1"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Your fitness level (how long can you hold without breaking form.)</span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you plank with bad form, </span><b><i>it will do NOTHING. </i></b><span style="font-weight: 400;">No matter your fitness level or the plank variation &#8212;</span> <span style="font-weight: 400;">you are wasting your time and could actually hurt your back. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Even if your form is perfect, there are still some cases where plank holds</span> <span style="font-weight: 400;">may not be a great ab exercise. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">One of those being &#8212;  </span><b><i>if you </i></b><b>can easily hold a plank for more than 1-minute.</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you can do that, you probably need to consider doing a different ab workout or perform </span><b><i>advanced plank variations </i></b><span style="font-weight: 400;">that are more challenging.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">To help you out, we have a </span><b>5 Minute Plank Ab Workout </b><span style="font-weight: 400;">for you to try! You will still perform a basic plank hold in this workout, but it will be for your rest periods!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you can hold a plank for 60-seconds, then you have advanced to the point that a basic plank now becomes your “active” rest! </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">These movements are advanced but still </span><b><i>don’t require any equipment. </i></b><span style="font-weight: 400;">You only need a small space on the floor and a timer. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">You don’t even need a timer if you choose to </span><b><i>follow along with us!</i></b> <span style="font-weight: 400;"> Just find a small space on the floor and </span><b>hit play on the video below! </b></p>
<p><b>NOTE: </b><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you are new to working out or have a weak core, this workout isn’t for you. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This means you will be planking a total of 5 minutes, with no rest. So if at any time you need to take a breather, go ahead! Just try to minimize it to a few seconds! </span></p>

<p>When exercise becomes a convenient habit, transformations become possible. In August 2019, Deborah, 40, of Inez, TX came back to work after a week off due to nerve damage in her back. The other waitresses in the restaurant where she worked had started a small weight loss challenge. The winner amongst them would get the prize pool from each person’s $5 buy in plus a gift card for matching that total. It wasn’t much, but Deborah figured what the heck…and now her V Shred transformation is inspiring others!</p>
<p><em>“I put money in and signed up, but I was convinced I wouldn’t lose weight so I just kept doing what I normally did.”</em> she explained.</p>

<p>Deborah has enrolled in the ACE personal training certification program. At age 40 with new goals and dreams she’s working to become certified as a trainer, nutritionist, and youth fitness coach to help kids get on the right track early, as she now has been able to help her family do.</p>
