<p><strong>Do your research:</strong> The smartest approach you can take is to look up the restaurant&#8217;s menu online if you can. As much as you can, plan out what you will order before you walk in the door and then stick to it.</p>
<p><strong>Know your numbers:</strong> It&#8217;s a lot easier to let things get out of control at a restaurant if you don&#8217;t have a clear idea about how many calories you&#8217;re eating each day. <p><strong>Get picky about meat prep:</strong> When it comes to meats, ask if you can order them grilled rather than fried and with no additional sauces, butter, or oil. Most restaurants are happy to accommodate! Same thing with sides! Potatoes and vegetables can almost always be ordered steamed and without all the calorie-rich condiments.</p>
<p><strong>Ask for a box up front:</strong> Even &#8220;healthy&#8221; restaurants can go way overboard with portions. It might be helpful to immediately put half of the portion in a to-go container &#8212; or split your meal with someone else.</p>
<p><strong>Skip the apps and desserts:</strong> Depending on your situation, rich appetizers and sweet desserts might be worth skipping for now.</p>
<p>Yes, there’s definitely a time and place to cut loose and have anything and everything you want. But that’s a different topic. Learning how to eat out while sticking to your plan is a skill, and it’s one worth learning!</p>

<p>Call it intermittent fasting or whatever you want. Skipping breakfast seems to work well for some people chasing weight loss and looking to cut calories.</p>
<p>But passing up the first meal of the day is definitely not everybody, and usually not sustainable long-term.</p>
<h3><b>Ask Yourself Why You Want To Skip Breakfast</b></h3>
<p>If skipping breakfast is just your way to avoid learning how to make a healthy breakfast, it’s not going to end well. If you want to reach your goals, you have to put just as much effort into nutrition as you do exercise!</p>

<p>Skipping breakfast is also not a smart approach if you wake up hungry or feel sluggish if you don’t eat something soon after waking. This will only backfire.</p>
<p>If you avoid breakfast as a tool to lose weight but you are hungry when you wake up, there are better ways to reach your weight loss goals. It’s best to go ahead and properly fuel your body each morning!</p>
<p>On the other hand, if you aren’t hungry when you wake up and skipping breakfast doesn’t lead to things like overeating later in the day or brain fog &#8211; in most cases, there is no reason to eat until you are hungry.</p>

<p>Plenty of people still end up eating just as much, or even more, when they skip meals, and their cravings certainly aren’t any less intense by choosing to eat their first meal later in the day.</p>
<p>That’s why for most people, a better approach isn’t changing when to eat; it’s taking the time to learn what to eat and what balanced meals and reasonable portions really look like.</p>
<p>The foundations are a high-protein breakfast, a solid snack or two, and lunch and dinner made of protein, veggies, complex carbs, and healthy fats.</p>
<p>Being consistent with that is what will help you make the most of your workouts and reach your goals faster and easier. Try to improve your overall approach to nutrition before you start cutting meals out of your schedule.</p>

<h3><b>There Is One Exception To Skipping Breakfast </b></h3>

										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h3>Even with a healthy diet, regular exercise, optimal recovery, and enough sleep, it&#8217;s natural for your body weight to fluctuate. Here&#8217;s what factors affect the scale and how to weigh yourself most accurately!</h3>

<p>It’s great to set ambitious goals about how much weight you want to lose, how much muscle you are going to gain, and when you hope to achieve those goals.</p>
<p>It’s also normal for your body to not get on board with those expectations.</p>
<p>The key to not driving yourself crazy is NOT putting too much stock into the number you see on the scale; otherwise, you will be far more likely to get discouraged, and far more likely to give up.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s how to set appropriate expectations about your weight, and how to make sure you get the most accurate reading when you do weigh yourself!</p>
<h3><b>What Causes Weight Fluctuations</b></h3>
<p>Weight fluctuations are completely normal, and everybody experiences them. Not just you! In facts, your weight can fluctuate or not change at all, even when you’re doing everything right &#8212; like working out, eating right, eating enough <a href="https://sculptnation.com/products/protein" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span>protein</span></a>, and getting enough sleep.</p>
<p>This can be particularly true If you’ve got a lot of weight to lose. You might experience numerous fluctuations or plateaus in your journey.</p>
<p>It’s hard to say what causes weight fluctuations. There could be MANY reasons. Sure, the way you eat or train could play factors, but so could a range of factors like:</p>
<ul>
<li><span></span>Digestion</li>
<li><span></span>Food Volume</li>
<li><span></span>How often or intensely you&#8217;re working out</li>
<li><span></span>Stress levels</li>
<li><span></span>Sleep quality or quantity</li>
<li><span></span>Sodium intake</li>
</ul>
<p>Daily weight fluctuations of 5 or more pounds are completely normal. The good news is that even when the scale isn&#8217;t going down, that doesn&#8217;t mean you&#8217;re not making progress! Important, valuable things are still happening in your body when you eat better and follow <a href="https://vshred.com/sp/fat-loss-extreme-f/sku_CKcwR4TEg54IeG?ref=home" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span>a well-structured weight-loss workout plan</span></a>.</p>
<p>Remember: Building and rebuilding your body is the project of a lifetime! The more workouts you keep nailing and the more quality meals you keep eating, the more you’re setting yourself up for success, no matter what the scale says.</p>
<h3><b>When To Step On The Scale</b></h3>
<p>It&#8217;s a good idea to weigh yourself first thing in the morning, before consuming any food or liquids, without clothes on, and if possible, right after using the restroom. This is the most commonly recommended technique to get an accurate reading.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s what not to do: Weigh yourself in the middle or at the end of the day, and freak out if the number looks high. The number on the scale will always be higher compared to the first thing in the morning!</p>
<p>And we don&#8217;t recommend mixing the two approaches. If you weigh in as soon as you wake up on Monday and then 2 pm Tuesday, you will most likely get very different and misleading numbers.</p>
<p>But here&#8217;s the thing: Even if you consistently weigh at the same time of day and under the exact same circumstances &#8212; your weight will likely still fluctuate day-to-day.</p>
<p>This is also why many coaches, including <a href="https://vshred.com/sp/custom-diet-plan/reup" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span>V Shred&#8217;s team of custom nutrition and workout coaches </span></a>will have you weigh in multiple times a week or even daily. This allows you to get a weekly weight average, which is more telling than any particular day.</p>
<h3><b>The Scale Is Only One Way To Measure Progress</b></h3>
<p>When used correctly, weighing yourself does have some value. But there are other things you can do to measure your progress. At V Shred, we talk a lot about these &#8220;non-scale victories&#8221; or NSVs. These are things like:</p>

<li><span></span>Your workouts feeling better or easier</li>

<li><span></span>Having an improved mood</li>
</ul>
<p>These NSVs are every bit as important (if not more) than what the scale says.</p>
<p>If seeing the number go up and down still stresses you out &#8212; we suggest stepping away from the scale for a while! Many of our clients have TOTALLY ditched the scale and ONLY rely on NSVs to measure progress! <h3><em><strong>Here&#8217;s your action plan for what to do next. </strong></em></h3>
<p><em><b>DO NOT:</b></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong> Double up your workouts</strong><br />
</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Could you do a morning and evening workout the next day in an attempt to “make up” for your missed session? You could, but we don’t recommend it.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Two-a-day workouts are taxing on the body, and chances are that “round two” will just be a suffer-fest. You will be exhausted and not recovered, and the quality of your work won&#8217;t be worth the trouble it takes to do it.  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A better way: Consider the day you missed a rest day! Then hit your next workout with your energy level high! </span></p>
<h2><em><strong>DO: </strong></em><span style="font-weight: 400;"><strong>Take a look at your workout program and schedule</strong></span></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If your workout schedule is so complicated that you find yourself having a hard time fitting your workouts into your schedule, you are frequently missing workouts, etc., you may need to reconsider your program or workout schedule.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Busy lifestyles and unexpected days off are exactly why we created most of <a href="https://vshred.com/programs?ref=home" target="_blank" rel="noopener">our V Shred workout programs</a> to be short and focus on working more muscles at once. <h2><strong><em>DO NOT:</em> Stress out or beat yourself up</strong></h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Believe it or not, a missed workout, or even a few, will not totally derail your progress. Your progress happens in the big picture, not the small one! But stressing out over your workouts can do more damage than you think!  </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">For one, stress can cause your <a href="https://vshred.com/blog/how-to-burn-fat-while-you-sleep-wake-up-leaner/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">stress hormone cortisol to spike.</a> This can lead to a host of issues over the long term, including poor sleep, fatigue, poor mood, irritability, difficulty recovering from workouts, and even weight gain. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But just as importantly, stressing out over your workouts can cause the positive momentum with all those successful workouts to come to a crashing halt. This can definitely cause your overall</span><a href="https://vshred.com/blog/workout-motivation-tips/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="font-weight: 400;"> motivation</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> to take a nose-dive. See what a vicious cycle it can be? </span></p>
<h2><strong><em>DO NOT:</em> Skip meals or limit food as punishment</strong></h2>
<p><span style="font-size: 1rem;">You should never “punish” yourself for missing a workout by cutting calories or skipping meals. Your body still needs nutrients, whether you are hitting the weights hard or not! Stick to your nutrition plan, and keep moving forward. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In fact, you are still in “recovery mode” for up to 48 hours after a hard training session! Not giving your body the nutrients it needs does nothing positive, and can hinder your strength and make your future workouts more difficult! </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you&#8217;ve missed a workout or two, you can help ensure you keep progressing toward your goals by prioritizing protein in your diet.  The easiest way to do that? <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Zabrina’s weight loss journey started a little different from most of our customers. Her “breaking point” didn’t come about because a doctor told her she needed to lose weight if she wanted to live a long life, after trying on a swimsuit, because she hated every picture she saw of herself, or any other “why” that typically pushes our customers to start a weight-loss program.</span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I was in a very dark place in my life for a second. I was starting my surgery center and had a lot of stress. I did get pregnant and had a miscarriage in the surgery center, and fell into depression. I needed to do something quickly to snap me out of it. I figured I needed to do something drastic. So I shaved my head,” </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">says Zabrina. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 45-year-old nurse, wife, and mom of four says it was then that she really noticed her weight was an issue. </span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“When I did that, I can’t hide anymore, right? All my flaws, my weight was really evident at that point. Even though it helped me snap out of the depression of miscarriage, I actually dipped a little into depression again because of my weight.”</span></i></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Coincidently, just a few days later, Zabrina was scrolling through her social media feed when she came across an advertisement for V Shred. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">But it wasn’t a crazy before &amp; after  transformation that led her to click the link, take our body type quiz and purchase a program. It was</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> a video that mentioned learning how to eat! </span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“There was a video that said you can learn how to eat, let me teach you about macros, your body type, are you an endomorph, mesomorph, and I was like this is </span></i><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">so interesting. It didn’t feel pushy or like you wanted to push some program on us, but it was more like open and friendly, and you wanted to educate us, and that is what I grasped off.”</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Without hesitation, Zabrina purchased </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fat Loss Xtreme</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> and got to work! </span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I wanted to look in the mirror, and I wanted to love myself, and I was having a hard time doing that. So I knew I needed to take matters into my own hands and transform what I was seeing in the mirror. You gave me those tools to do that.” </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">says Zabrina</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In just 90 days, Zabrina totally transformed her body. </span></p>
<p><b><i>She lost 53 pounds, went from 32% body fat to 16.6%, and dropped </i></b><b><i>roughly 10 clothing sizes!!!</i></b><b><i></i></b></p>

<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It rejuvenated me; it’s made me happier as a person, which obviously goes into every aspect of my life. My marriage is better than ever, I have energy to be with my kids now. I have older kids too , and my 23 and 19-year-old, no one even believes I am their mom right now,” </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">says Zabrina.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Of course, she loves the aesthetic changes and the new outlook on life that came with losing so much weight, but Zabrina says her favorite part about the journey is that she finally knows how to eat! </span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“It was so obvious to me I had no idea how to eat. I thought by starving yourself, that was the key. Just don’t eat, and you will lose weight. That is so wrong. Your body has a memory, your body needs fuel, and you need to workout, and you need carbs.”</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Thanks to everything our programs teach, Zabrina now has the tools she needs to continue exercising and eating right for the rest of her life. </span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Once I started seeing what was happening to my body, I was like, why am I gonna stop,” </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">says Zabrina.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">She has also become quite the advocate for V Shred &#8212; recruiting co-workers, friends, and even her mom to take our free body type quiz and jump on board! </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Zabrina isn’t sure what her next fitness goal is; all she knows is that she is happier and healthier than she has ever been and has no plans to ever look back!</span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I was talking to my girlfriends the other day, and they were like I wish I was 21 again, and I’m like &#8211; I don’t! I’m perfectly fine being fabulous at 45.” </span></i></p>

I’m eternally grateful. It’s been an eye-opening experience, and I feel totally empowered right now.”</span></i></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Renae realized it had been a long time since she saw a picture of herself and had something positive to say! Right then and there, she knew her why and the goal she needed to set to keep herself motivated. </span></p>

<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“In 2002, I was walking down the road and was hit by a drunk driver.  I went to the hospital, and they didn’t know if they would be able to save my life,” </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">says Amy. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the blink of an eye, Amy’s life forever changed. She suffered both life-changing and life-threatening injuries.</span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“My right leg was broken in three places, left leg broken in five. Both ankles were broken. My pelvis was cracked in three places. I was a mess.” </span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Before surgeons could even think about saving her legs, Amy had to be rushed into emergency open-heart surgery to repair a torn aorta.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Once doctors successfully repaired her heart, the lengthy process of saving her legs began, but Amy says doctors weren’t optimistic.</span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I had two inches of bone gone out of my right leg. So the doctors didn’t think I’d be able to walk,”</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> remembers Amy.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Doctors also told Amy that she wouldn’t be able to have kids. But this remarkable woman beat all odds!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Not only did Amy walk again, she recently completed one of our most challenging workout programs &#8212; with her two kids sweating by her side! </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">That’s right, despite the doctor’s predictions, Amy not only survived and walked again, but she also had two children who are now ages 15 and 7 and love doing V Shred workouts with her! </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“That is a blessing in itself,” says Amy. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Amy no doubt has a remarkable survival story, but let’s rewind to before she discovered V Shred and what motivated her to get started on her post-accident health journey.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Being given a second chance at life will undoubtedly make you grateful for your health, but the after-effects of Amy’s injuries limited her physical abilities. Add to that two pregnancies, and it eventually took a toll on Amy’s body. </span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I was very unhappy with myself and what I saw in the mirror every day.</span></i> <i><span style="font-weight: 400;">I don&#8217;t know how severely I was overweight, but I know I was overweight. I would get winded and tired and wouldn&#8217;t want to keep up with my son, who is at lightning speed all of the time,” recalls Amy. </span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Amy wanted to get in shape, but most workout programs required exercises she wasn’t able to do physically, so she focused on her diet but didn’t have success with any fad she tried. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">I’ve tried every diet that there was. Nothing seemed to work,” says Amy. </span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Then her husband stumbled upon V Shred and looked at some <a href="https://vshred.com/reviews">V Shred reviews online</a>. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Amy completed one round of Fat Loss Xtreme and, at the end of 90 days, lost a total of 17 pounds.</span></p>

I know I wouldn&#8217;t be as fit if I didn’t have V Shred because of the ability to make it my own. It has helped. That isn&#8217;t something anyone knows. Once I figured that out, that was huge,” </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">says Amy. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">With every rep, every set, every breath, Amy is no doubt defying the odds! </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Your struggles and backstory may not be as extreme as Amy’s, but no matter why you’ve found yourself out of shape or staring in the mirror unhappy with your reflection, getting started and not giving up isn&#8217;t easy </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Unhealthy, unhappy, and a weight-loss skeptic. That sums up 44-year-old Rich before stumbling upon V Shred.</span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I was sick of looking at myself. I had to get to the point of where it was like, I am worth it, and I’m worth pushing through this,” says Rich.</span></i></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rich wanted to change but had already tried what seemed like every diet out there and failed every single time. So as you can imagine, when he saw an advertisement for V Shred on Facebook, his first instinct was to keep scrolling.&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Normally, I scroll past stuff like that, but it was different than anything I’d seen before. Something about that ad. There was a story. Someone said V Shred was life-changing for them, and I have always loved the saying &#8212; when you change the way you see yourself, you change the way you see the world. That is kind of what I got from that interview you had there. So I said, let’s go, let’s try it,” </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">says Rich.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rich is now healthy, happy, and has a totally different attitude about working out, dieting, and weight loss!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">After?&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I don’t think I quite understood what it took. Everyone knows and talks about lifestyle change, but it was hard for me to grasp it until you do it,” says Rich</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Learning how to create healthy lifestyle habits through tracking macros and fueling his body with healthy foods was probably the most challenging part for Rich, but once his body adjusted, he says it’s all his body wants!</span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“ I used to eat fast food 3-4 times a week. Now it makes me sick! I crave the good proteins. I crave the vegetables. The energy is unbelievable that I have now!”</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Learning a new way to eat wasn’t Rich’s only challenge &#8212; </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“There were days I was sweating, threw up a lot, and cried,”</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> remembers Rich.&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In the beginning, Rich says that some days the workouts got the best of him both physically and mentally.&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“The first week I got the program, and the exercises looked really easy to do, but it was way tougher. It was kind of a reality check to me where I physically was. I damn near quit right there. That reality check was real hard for me to get over. I’m not gonna lie. I failed the first couple of times, but I picked myself up and kept going.”</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Good thing he pushed through because 33 weeks later, </span><b><i>Rich is down 72 pounds and doing things he never thought were possible!&nbsp;</i></b></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Last year, I couldn’t walk up the stairs to my office without feeling sweating and feeling fatigued. This weekend I climbed a freaking mountain! I climbed a bloody mountain! I’m not done yet either. I am far from done.”&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Losing such a substantial amount of weight was far from easy. Rich says he had many days he didn’t want to workout. But one thing he credits for helping him stay on track was the </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">option to either workout from home or at a gym.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“That is one of the things that initially made me purchase V Shred. That type of flexibility where some days it’s harder to get to the gym, well, there is nothing stopping me from getting on the floor and doing my work. I loved that about the program.”&nbsp;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Going from 305 pounds to 233 is only one type of weight that Rich lost. He says losing the mental weight that held him down is his real victory!&nbsp;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rich has about 20 more pounds to go before reaching his goal weight but says he’s no longer focused on the scale. It’s the non-scale victories, like being able to take on new hobbies like hiking and running, and the big smile he wears every day that matters most!</span></p>
<p><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I’m happier. If I am a happier person, I’m happier to be around, and I want to see people happy as well. I plan on being happier for a very long time.”</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Rich says if anyone understands being hesitant, it’s him. After all, only 8 months ago, he was 305 pounds and thought every diet and exercise program out there was a fad or a scam.&nbsp;</span></p>
